This beauty is still making history. Before its life in Gilpin Colorado, it helped with the building of the Panama Canal. In October 2005, it was moved to Nederland Colorado to the Nederland Mining Museum. This steam shovel is now the most famous one in the world, with its incredible history. It will be Nationally Landmarked, as it will become a National Monument in the United States. It is the single most important piece of placer mining equipment know to exist in the world today. The History Channel will be premiering it in their series Mega-Movers.
What a fantastic piece of equipment it is.

We have had the CP Web Cam running while we clean concentrates, slabbing rocks, create cabbachons, work on art projects, or just capturing this great state's scenery. Check the webcam to see what's up today. There is also a weather banner so you can see how unpredictable Colorado's weather can be.

You can view some of Colorado Prospector's past events at our
"Past Colorado Prospector Events" page.

Reclamation Of A Trommel Ramp.

  • We worked on the project to reclaim the trommel ramp at Vic's Gold Panning. Alot of hard work involved but alot of fun, and the gold we found was an added plus.

The Nederland Mining Museum has a whole new look, so come see and bring the family.
