Topaz
Topaz crystal from the John Alexander collection.
Topaz crystals of this size come from Brazil as this one did and at 15 pounds
plus, it's quite a specimen. Slightly damaged on some of the back edges but still
a very nice shape overall. Different background colors are shown as comparison......
This is a clear crystal (no color). With the crystal specimen, the new owner will also
be buying a very unique piece of Colorado's history, both in the mineral collectors world
and in aviation history.
The original owner of this piece was John Alexander, a well known mineral collector
and Colorado resident. John's family owned and ran both the Alexander film company and
the Alexander airplane company in which John worked as well. Many travelers per year can
view an original "Eaglerock biplane" hanging from Denver's international airport ceiling.
Upon John's graduation from Colorado College as a young man, his Uncle Don (One of the
original founders-Alexander Film company) gave John this topaz as a graduation present.
John went on to become one of Colorado's best known mineral collectors over the
years and donated many pieces to the Denver museum and a topaz faceted by the well known gem
faceter John Sinkankas, to the Smithsonian museum, and one to the Denver Museum.
The history of this piece is in itself "world class", making this topaz
crystal an awesome addtion to any collection!
